The Department of Civil, Building and Environmental Engineering is strongly committed to research, developing cutting-edge topics and issues across the various scientific sectors affiliated with the Department. It holds a leading position at both the national and international levels, in both fundamental and applied research. A key aspect of DICEA, closely linked to its disciplinary specificities, is its ability to conduct applied experiments and field research, facilitated through collaborations with national and international public institutions, businesses, and service companies.
DICEA's research activities encompass various initiatives, funded through different public and private sources at the national and international levels. These include ministerial funding (PRIN, FIRB, etc.), research institution grants (CNR, etc.), European and international research project funding, regional and local public funding, and investments from public institutions and service companies in sectors such as transport, energy, waste, water, and mobility infrastructure.
This extensive research activity is demonstrated by the broad range of scientific publications, numerous national and international conferences and exhibitions, participation in national and international research networks, prestigious national and international awards, and the development of patents.
A significant strength of DICEA's research activity is its close relationship with PhD programs, which are highly recognized both nationally and internationally. These programs embrace various forms of internationalization, playing a crucial role in engaging younger generations and significantly contributing to research. This involvement is further reflected in the presence of research fellows and fixed-term researchers, who are acknowledged as fundamental contributors to the Department.
Research also serves as a foundation for developing high-quality teaching activities. The study programs designed by DICEA faculty continuously integrate research activities, ensuring that students engage with the latest scientific and technological innovations. Laboratory activities, thesis projects, exercises, internships, and traineeships provide students with direct exposure to the most relevant topics addressed within DICEA, often projecting them onto an international level.
Additionally, DICEA is extensively engaged in scientific consulting, participation in technical and scientific committees, and editorial activities, particularly in renowned scientific journals, where its researchers are actively involved.
